Frequently Asked Questions
Will I have to pay the monthly fees and
then reclaim the money back from my staff or member?
No. Once a member joins the scheme the contract is between General & Medical
and the member.
Will I be responsible for distributing policy documentation?
No. General & Medical will forward all necessary documentation, relating
to each policy direct.
What age do people have to be to join the scheme?
Individuals can join the scheme between the ages of 18 - 75, however once on
cover there is no upper age limit. Anyone below the age of 18 can only be
accepted as part of a family membership.
What will I need to do to allow my staff or member to join the scheme?
After registering your company, your staff will need to be informed that the
scheme is now available.
Must all employees or members apply for the same type of cover?
No. Each employee or member may choose any level of cover. The only restriction
is that each 'family group' must have the same level of cover.
Do my employees or members have to have a medical to qualify for cover?
No. They do not need to undergo a medical or fill in a complicated medical
questionnaire; however, they must have been registered with an NHS GP in
the UK for a minimum of 24 months.
What is the main benefit for me?
The main benefit for you is that you will be able to offer an excellent benefit
to your staff or members. The best part is that you will only have to pay
for the postage stamp on your application to register! Because this benefit
is free to you, your employees will be exempt from P11D rules; this makes
it effectively a tax-free benefit!
Will I have to get involved if there is a problem
with a member's or employees membership?
No. Any queries regarding claims or membership will be sorted out directly
between General & Medical and the client. We find that this stops any confusion
arising and quickly remedies any problems, without breaching data protection
regulations.
I already have a corporate health scheme for my staff, how easy will it be
to swap over?
Swapping over is very easy! Because you will no longer administer the scheme
for your staff, all you need to do is advise your staff that benefit with your
current insurer will cease. Then advise your staff of the new offer with General & Medical
and they will then be responsible for obtaining membership. We are aware that
some staff may be undergoing treatment, we may be able to offer different underwriting
types to suit their needs.
Will staff or members have to cease using the scheme once they have left my
company or organisation?
No. Because it is a personal policy, the member may remain on cover for as
long as they wish. However they may lose your scheme discount.
