ASGBI and General & Medical proud to be commercial partners
The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) and General & Medical have recently become Commercial Partners but who are they. Professor Nicholas P Gair explains.
The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland is the specialty association for General Surgery. Founded in 1920 by Lord Moynihan, the objectives of the Association are; the advancement of the science and art of surgery and the promotion of friendship amongst surgeons. Over the past 88 years, the Association has grown into a powerful national body representing all surgeons involved in the general surgical care of patients.
In addition, ASGBI also acts as an umbrella federation for a range of other national surgical associations and societies comprising of the Association of Breast Surgery at BASO, Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons, British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons, British Transplantation Society, Vascular Society,Association of Surgeons in Training, British Association of Day Surgery, National Association of Assistants in Surgical Practice, Society for Academic and Research Surgery, Association of Surgeons in Primary Care and the British Hernia Society. The Association thus manages a combined data-base of over 10,500 members worldwide, of which 2,500 are Fellows of ASGBI.
We are delighted that General and Medical Insurance Ltd. has become one of our first Commercial Partners. The aim is to provide a real partnership whereby an extensive and developing range of commercial activities can be undertaken for mutual benefit. To this end we have developed a range of marketing, advertising and promotional benefits reserved exclusively for our Partners, who will benefit from regular articles in the ASGBI Newsletter, a presence on the website and direct mailings to Fellows.
In addition our Commercial Partners are offered the opportunity to exhibit at the Association’s International Surgical Congress, which is the largest annual gathering of surgeons in Europe. Eight parallel lecture theatres are in use throughout the three days, and the Congress combines an international quality scientific programme, a state-of-the-art trade exhibition and stimulating social activities. The next Congress will be held in Glasgow from 13th to 15th May 2009
The Association looks forward to working with General & Medical Insurance in the future and to developing a long, successful and rewarding partnership.
