10 things to do to keep the kids occupied

Keep kids occupied

We’ve put together a list of things to entertain the kids with when they’re off school, no matter what the weather.

Sunny Days:

Picnic in the park - There's nothing quite like a picnic in the park, obviously weather dependent, it can be a great day out! Pack the kids their favourite sandwiches, snacks, jelly and drinks, grab a blanket and head to the park for some fun. Not only will the kids love playing outside but it’s also great to keep them active throughout the day, they might even want an early night sleep later on.

National Trust - The National Trust have so many lovely places to visit around the UK and these places usually hold a lot of history. Take the kids out to explore and make it an adventure of learning. You can visit their website here: National Trust UK.

Visit a country fair - Country fairs and markets can have so much going on! It’s a great place to spend a day out and get involved with the local community. Some fairs even have animal petting and feeding, as well as a wide range of local produce on offer.

Make a tent in the back garden - Sometimes you just want to enjoy your own home comforts, why not spend a couple of hours building a makeshift tent in the back garden? Use blankets, pillows and bedsheets and build a little haven for the kids to enjoy!

Bike ride - Find a nice little off-road route for a family bike ride. Bike rides are perfect to get the kids out of the house and they’re also great for you too! Get your blood pumping and enjoy a lovely day out! Don’t forget the sun cream though, check out our blog post on how to protect yourself from the sun.

Activities For Kids

Rainy Days:

Museums and libraries - If it’s raining outside and you don’t really want to stay at home just staring at the TV screen then head out to a museum or the local library. Soak up some knowledge and let the kids explore and pick out a book or two to take home.

Home baking - Spend the afternoon baking your kids favourite food and treats, from homemade pizzas for lunch to fairy cakes for dessert. Be careful though as your kitchen may get a little messy.

Swimming - Teaching your kids to swim is so rewarding so why not take a trip to your local indoor swimming pool and have a splash around? It’s a great way to keep you all active and you can enjoy a fun-filled day out too.

Build a fort - Instead of building a tent outside, when it’s raining you can build a fort inside! Grab all of the pillows, duvets and blankets and build until your heart's content. It’s a great way for kids to be inventive and creative.

Home cinema - Record or buy a family film, open the popcorn and settle down for a few hours in front of the TV. Create your own home cinema experience for the kids to enjoy and relax.
