The spring detox, for your life
Most people tend to detox in January with extreme diets and exercise regimes that never usually last in the long run. This sort of behaviour has given the detox a bad name when all it really means is to abstain from or rid the body of toxic and unhealthy substances. This March, we are celebrating spring and new life by giving you some ideas on how you can detox your health and your life too.
Buy local
Admittedly sometimes it isn’t always that easy to buy local produce because of working hours, but if you can get out at the weekend, be sure to go to your local farmers market and buy in-season British produce. Mother Nature works in mysterious ways by often providing us with what we need, at the right time. Look for artichokes and fresh herbs such as parsley to help cleanse and lighten your body, they will also help with bloat!
Introduce probiotics
To help your digestion and give yourself a head start at a flat stomach for summer, you need to introduce probiotics into your diet. You can either take a probiotic supplement in the morning with your breakfast or start including fermented and pickled foods into your meals. Think pickled vegetables such as miso and raw sauerkraut. Also try to make sure that you eat sitting down, in a relaxed position and that you chew your food really well.
Look after your skin
With a last cold blast from winter and hopefully a warm spring on its way, your skin will be taking a big hit. Start your preparation now by incorporating sun defending tomatoes into your diet and upping your intake of vitamin C through citrus fruits. The power of tomatoes is in the lycopene that they contain. Lycopene is a carotenoid and antioxidant that neutralises free radicals produced from too much sun and also prevents the inflammatory response that too much UV exposure can trigger in your body.
Focus on you
Get into the habit of prioritising self-care! Start your day with a 10-minute meditation, a walk-in nature or even give yourself a facial. In today’s landscape where we are switched on 24/7, it’s really important to switch off from the world every now and then and give our body the care and attention it deserves. Even just a 10-minute break is enough to secure your wellbeing in the long run.
