Getting The Kids Back To School
Yes, that’s right. The time has come where we begin to plan and prepare to get the kids back to school.
Now I'm sure for most of you, you may be a little excited to get the kids out the house again and give yourself that well deserved break you’ve been waiting for this whole summer. But before we get there we need to prepare getting the kids back to school first!
Preparation for getting the kids back to school
As the summer holidays begin to come to an end, it’s best to start preparing your kids for going back to school. But what do you need to prepare?
Bedtimes and sleep recommendations
I'm sure many of you may agree that having a bedtime routine and set time to get your kids to bed was slightly changed throughout the summer holidays as it’s easy to get carried away in having fun and spending quality family time together! But that’s okay because there is plenty of time to get your kids sleeping back on track! The most important thing you need to know is how much sleep your kids really need.
Well not to worry because to save you time on trying to find out, I have the answer for you. The amount of sleep that children need depends on their age. It's recommended that 3-6 year olds need 10-12 hours of sleep per day, whereas 7-12 year olds need 10-11 hours of sleep per day. If you are interested in finding out more about how much sleep your child needs, the following website will give you further recommendations: Child Sleep: Recommended Hours For Every Age (webmd.com)
Getting back into learning and a routine
Being off for the summer holidays is a long time to be away from school and i’m sure it’s given the kids a chance to rest their thinking heads a little, but maybe to help get them back into the groove of learning and completing homework a good idea might be to do a little reading with them or test their knowledge with a little fun quiz! Because with all the fun you may have had during the summer I'm sure getting the kids back to school and receiving homework, they may find it a little ‘boring’ to begin with . But it doesn’t have to be. Let’s remind them the advantages of completing homework can have and it can be fun with a little help from the right person!
Back to school checklist
Finally, don’t forget to double check that your kids have all the things they need, as you know how it can be sometimes that they may come to you at the last minute when everything is already sold out or maybe they haven’t thought of it themselves! Such as:
- pencil case plus some pens, pencils, calculator and any other required stationery
- refillable water bottle
- lunch box and healthy pack up ideas if needed, why not check out our 'Brain-boosting food for the kids packed lunches' for some inspiration
- book bag and/or backpack
- full set of uniform and separate PE kit, including a change of shoes
- name labels, name stamp or a permanent pen to label all of their belongings
- the latest app downloaded on your devices if their school uses one, to make sure they are aware of the latest updates and any tasks to complete before going back to school
- and anything else they may have been asked to bring to school.
It will always make things a little easier if you get a chance to prepare ahead a little. Then you can enjoy a well deserved break knowing your children have gone back to school happily!
