Multitasking – Finding the right balance

Although multitasking can be good if you can handle it, it can also be a bad thing, as sometimes trying to take on too much at once leads to stress and things can become overwhelming quite quickly!

Keep your workload in mind, and if required, work on a task at a time so that you can make sure you can focus on getting one piece done and then moving onto the next, building on from there.

Distractions - how to not get caught up in them

Distractions can sometimes be our worst enemy; I think we are all guilty of getting distracted sometimes to put off work, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways of managing!

Think about what is distracting you and work on avoiding it, if it’s a specific work task, then take a break from it and put your attention to something else if it’s possible, or try and work on a different section of your task as this can make sure you stay engaged and less likely to be distracted.

Although it is easier said than done, working on it slowly will certainly help. If you are reading this thinking “well, it’s my co-worker that is distracting me!”, then you may want to get them to read this article too!

Creating a positive work environment

Creating a positive work environment is essential for improving productivity and employee satisfaction. By prioritising natural light and ergonomics, you can improve your well-being and focus, ultimately leading to increased productivity through being in an environment where you feel comfortable and not distracted by your physical environment.

The most common reason you might not feel very productive is because you don’t set any goals or targets. By setting up small goals or tasks for the day, this will help motivate you into wanting to achieve them and it creates a motivated mindset to want to work harder. You may also find yourself feeling more positive about leaving work knowing you achieved what you set out to achieve and ready to come back the next day, prepared to succeed again!

Balancing your energy and not exhausting yourself

Productivity takes a hit when we're overworked, burned out, or just generally exhausted during work. To increase your productivity at work, give yourself a break if you start to feel stressed or overwhelmed to avoid feeling demotivated. It is also okay to take a few minutes if needed. Sit in silence for a few minutes each day and reflect on what is going well or where you're struggling. If you can start taking some time to focus on your health, happiness, and wellbeing while at work, you'll be able to manage any stress that hits you at work better. Taking a break can be a good thing, because you will come back with a clearer mindset allowing you to make better decisions and this will help you to regain focus.

It is okay to allow yourself to take a break, a few minutes away from working will do you some good. The advantages are that you will be able to come back feeling refreshed even if you just step away to grab a quick tea or coffee.

By using these tips you will hopefully find yourself enhancing your productivity and feeling a lot more comfortable at work, succeeding with your work!

Keeping yourself productive outside work can be a challenge too, so for some more useful tips and helping in keeping on top of things in and out of the work environment, we have some advice on setting and achieving goals from our partners at Health Assured, providers of health & wellbeing services to our customers, below, who discuss goal setting overall with Maria-Teresa Daher-Cusack, setting practical strategies and how you can become a goal setting pro!
