Being a student at any age and on any course comes with its stresses, but whilst you’re learning it’s important to prioritise your health and wellbeing. It’s important to look after yourself while studying to help you keep a clear mind and to help you focus on your learning.
Here are some useful tips on how to keep a positive and motivated mindset, whilst also keeping in mind your health and wellbeing:
Prioritise your tasks
Studying can be overwhelming. Sometimes looking at your workload can seem like you have a mountain of work to do, however by managing your time and organising your work, this will help you keep on track. For example, if you work better in the mornings try to plan your study sessions during this time and be consistent. Or by having set study days for a small amount of time will help you get into a good routine; it may be difficult to begin with but by staying consistent you will soon get into a routine.
Communicate
This time can be really stressful for some students and therefore if you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed it is important to communicate with family or friends. Communicating how you are feeling can lift a heavy weight off your shoulders and it can also help clear your mind allowing you to put more focus and thoughts into studies - helping you to achieve your goals.
Take a break
Being committed to your studies is great, however it’s also important to take regular breaks, whether that be having a walk or going out to grab a coffee. It is also good to take some time to reflect on the work you have done, what you have learnt or how you might apply what you have learnt into future studies. Working hard is great but allowing yourself to have a break is also good for your wellbeing. Studying takes a lot of focus and concentration, therefore having regular breaks will reset your mind.
Get Support when you need it
Remember you are not alone. If you are feeling overwhelmed with your work you could also reach out to teachers or lectures. It’s okay to take a break. Finally, try not to think of studying as a tedious job you have to do, try and turn it into something positive by thinking about the new stuff you might learn and reward yourself with something after your studies, for example a sweet treat or coffee.
Overall, it is important to prioritise your tasks, communicate and take breaks when needed. You will be taking care of yourself and your well being, enabling you to remain productive and motivated. Here are even more tips you can follow - Wellbeing - Mind
