General & Medical Healthcare celebrate their Pearl Anniversary

This week the General & Medical Group are thrilled to be celebrating their 30th anniversary as Private Health Insurance providers in the UK and overseas.

Established in the 1980s, the company was initially set up by David Wildman as a finance brokerage, specialising in leasing medical equipment to Dentists, Opticians and Nursing Homes.

Within five years Private Medical Insurance (PMI) had overtaken finance and leasing as the main focus of the company and in 2006, they opened the doors on General & Medical Insurance Ltd, their own insurance company to underwrite the PMI Scheme and other general insurances.

Fast forward to 2018 and General & Medical Insurance Ltd has gone on to become the very backbone of the General & Medical Group. The company now has offices in Peterborough, London and most recently expanding into the US market with new offices opening in Texas.

Through steady growth over the past 30 years, the group has maintained its independence and customer focus, ensuring clients receive the personal friendly service that many larger organisations no longer deliver.

David Wildman, Managing Director said, ‘I started General & Medical from home with just a fax machine, word processor and filing cabinet. I knew back then that I wanted to offer my clients a more personal and comprehensible service than our competitors at the time. It was important to me to build long standing connections with my clients and by growing the company steadily over the past 30 years, we have continued to protect our ethos of providing an exceptional personalised service.

Now, with several offices and a fantastic team of staff, I am immensely proud of what we have achieved over the years and where we are today. I also recognise the importance of continuing to evolve to suit the fast changing world we live in and to welcome the opportunities available to us.’

In 2017 General & Medical achieved Lloyd’s accreditation, resulting in the launch of the Lloyd’s Broking division ‘G&M International’. Specialising in wholesale insurance broking, the growing G&M International team opened their London office in the heart of the thriving financial district, just a stone’s throw from the famous Lloyd’s of London building.

2018 has seen further expansion in the Group with the opening of their US office in the heart of Houston, Texas. G&M Insurance Services Inc. will allow the US market to access the Lloyd’s syndicate directly with more complex and specialist risks across a number of business sectors.

In an ever changing world of emerging risks and developing technological platforms, the General & Medical Group have strong plans and aspirations afoot, making the next 30 years an exciting one!
