What pre-existing medical conditions can we offer Private Health Insurance for?
Our pre-existing conditions cover can be added to your policy for an additional premium and you can choose up to two of the pre-defined conditions listed below.
Cover for the above pre-existing conditions are subject to an annual limit of £1,000, however, because we care about our customers and value their loyalty, each year the annual limit will roll up £1,000 to a maximum of £10,000 after 10 years, provided cover has been continuous and there have been no claims relating to the pre-existing condition.
What is a pre-existing condition?
A pre-existing condition is a disease, illness or injury which you have received medication, treatment or advice for; or that you have experienced symptoms before the start of your cover, whether or not you have sought advice from a medical professional.
Private Health Insurance is designed to give you peace of mind when it comes to new arising medical conditions and it’s often seen that pre-existing conditions are not usually covered by health insurers across the UK. Here at General & Medical Healthcare, we understand the need for flexibility which is why our Private Health Insurance policies can offer cover for certain pre-existing conditions.
Our pre-existing conditions cover, for private medical insurance, can provide you with the reassurance you need, knowing that if you have a flare-up of one of your conditions covered then you’ll be able to undergo the treatment needed and focus on your health returning to normal.
Existing customers and your pre-existing conditions rolling benefit
For existing customers, if you switch over to a different insurer it may be that you will lose the additional benefit accrued with us for your pre-existing conditions, as many other providers do not offer cover for this. You will also lose the rolling benefit of your annual limit which you will have accumulated with us and it may be that your new provider will exclude any related conditions.
Other options for Health Insurance with pre-existing conditions
Choosing the right underwriting method for your circumstances can also help determine whether your pre-existing conditions might be covered later on by your medical insurance. We offer a choice of underwriting options available for you and the two main options are Moratorium and Full Medical Underwriting.
- Moratorium Underwriting: You don’t need to disclose your full medical history but all pre-existing conditions from the previous five years are excluded for a set period, 24 months in our case.
- Full Medical Underwriting: You’ll fill out a medical declaration regarding your past health and any pre-existing condition and any related conditions will be excluded unless we agree to accept them.
We can also offer those looking to transfer from an existing scheme continued underwriting options including continued moratorium or continued personal medical exclusions. Find out more about our underwriting options.
